One Thing About Nyack: Art & History, with JP Schutz of Better Homes & Gardens/Rand Realty

Artists have long called Nyack home. Native son Edward Hopper painted the buildings of Nyack and the Hudson River light. “Almost every morning, sunlight hit the walls of [Nyack’s] facades and also ran up Second Avenue straight into Edward’s upstairs bedroom. He would embrace it, as well as the luminosity off the Hudson as he sat on the rocks adjacent to Gedney Street dreaming of boats.” (*)

Today, Nyack is home to a rich and thriving artistic community – perhaps drawn to the same light that informs Hopper’s work. As you visit our shops and restaurants be sure to look at the walls, which are often decorated with the works of local artists.
